Werelden van…/ Worlds of…

Commissioned by housing corporation Woonstad, Laurien Dumbar, Thijs Ewalts, Tom Gallant and Kamiel Verschuren created a joint design for 16 new window sections in four post-war gallery flats in the Pendrecht district of Rotterdam-South.

The flats were completely renovated to meet current living requirements. To get more light into the stairwells, elongated window frames were made in the side walls (900 x 90 cm).

The wederopbouw district of Pendrecht, whose floor plan was designed by urban planner Lotte Stam- Beese in 1953, promised an orderly world in which everyone would live the same life. The new, digitally produced windows depict today’s world: visual montages around themes such as housing, science and camouflage show a collection of coexisting habitats. The project was accompanied by a publication.
